I am begging for some kind of answer here. Why can't Americans heal their political differences long enough to get along for the benefit of the nation?

America claims to have a pluralistic society, why isn't it one?

Yes, we all have very strong opinions, whether conservative or liberal, but can't we put those aside long enough to realize that in order to survive in the world as it is, as a country, we need to work together! I am I the only one who's wondering this?!

In order to get an answer that means anything, you would need to find out 'what the differences are,' and in order to do that, you'd have to ask each of them to state their position in - well, just about everything, really.

As the Jewish expression goes, 'You should live so long!'

The expression, 'We need to work together' you used, is a good rallying point. Unfortunately, you need to find the point from whereto begin this work.

Sorry, But there goes another lifetime.

Best of luck.

I'm not sure how to respond. But, I will state that trying to get 300 million people to agree on what benefits the nation is a pipe dream. Or, if we agree on a common benefit, it would have to be such a vague notion that it would not prove useful towards uniting people.

You can argue, we all want our country to survive. What exactly does that mean, however? And how should we achieve that?

A MEANINGFUL, open debate would be a nice step towards defining the goal and how to pursue them. But, how often does that occur? We are lazy in our politics, and if ever we attempt to debate anything, it often devolves into a shout match where the people talking mistaking the volume of their argument for the validity of their argument.

No you're not the only one who feels this way. I do too and i've ask others this without much responce. This makes me sick i believe i would give everything i have or hope to have to achieve this yet i feel as a failure because i'm so weak and very sinful but there is always hope of a better tomorrow// I truly hate that people all over the world are hungry , sick, and at war and all i can determine its all for vanity and is in vain , all we get is more suffering/You are wishing for heaven and its not here on earth --Thats why i can't accept the Islam religeion of x--amount of virgins etc;; The God i try to serve gives much more He gives peace and goodwill of your attitude not a physical pleasure/ Glad you asked/// God bless---------------We need all the entire people to understand that we all have a common desire of goodwill as a majority but the few who dont want it is small but powerful ( satan )

I'm not American, so it would be somewhat wrong for me to criticize them. All country's have their faults and issues.
South Africa's poor leadership and lack of education and healthcare, has pushed up the crime so much, that's it's almost uninhabitable for honest, hard-working people.
I know this, because I just immigrated to Canada, after living in S.A my entire life.
America has it's mistakes, and many point them out because America is ALWAYS in the media, ALWAYS in some or other war, ALWAYS telling countries what to do, etc.
In the past Britain was very critized, because it was the "big country in charge of everything".
I agree with you on the issue. But isn't there always something else that needs to be fixed up somewhere?
