Oh you'll change!! Your circle of friends will change, the way your old friends see you will change, the people that you think would back you all the way in high school or such will change. I don't know why she thinks there is an 80% of you going EOW on the job though?? I say it's 50/50, just like crossing the street! Are you going to make it all the way across before keeling over dead? You have a 50% chance of that also. I can say that she may be worried about the choices of cities you have given as the memory of the police funeral in LA this week for Officer Randall Simmonds (RIP) may still be in her mind, as he was the first SWAT team member to die in action since the dept. was founded so it made International news even. She'll have to accept that you're going to become an officer, that is what you want to do, your feelings towards her won't change at all, you'll still love her like you do now. But she's also going tohave to accept the fact that a policeman's wife's life is not like Aunt Bea , in MAYBERRY RFD, and you're not going to be Sheriff Taylor!!

I can imagine it to be true. Police officers have probably one of the most stressful jobs, and it would be hard to not bring that home every night. Add to that the low pay, risk of injury &/or death. And being a cop can bring out the worst in a person, if they have a tendency towards being a control freak, it usually exacerbates it. And most cops are arrogant as hell.

I believe that it is true. Police officers see so much daily, and it hardens them. Many times, they become overprotective, because of what they see. They also spend many hours away from home which can cause tension. There can be trust issues on both sides. All of this is before you may add any other factor such as drinking, drugs, abuse, adultery and/or working hours.

FALSE. They are no more likely to get a divorce then anyone else.

typically the type of person who wants a barney fife job is not the kind of person who does well trusting others.. many cops are adrenaline junkies... always more hype... many are not far from being criminals themselves... fantasizing about killing and raping ... power junkies... that is how they know the criminals so well, they are just looking into the mirror to see themselves only to not like what they see... typically not the type to be a good marital partner... those that are near normal will marry psycho women who cannot handle the what ifs and when will he not come home thoughts....
