Idiot is a word derived from the Greek ιδιωτης, idiōtēs ("layman," "person lacking professional skill," "a private citizen," "individual"), from ιδιος, idios ("private," "one's own").[citation needed] In Latin the word idiota ("ordinary person, layman") preceded the Late Latin meaning "uneducated or ignorant person". From this divination it appears if you are an idiot, they you are to blame. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps boy and get out of the ditch that you have dug and on ward and upward, the view I can tell ya is much better upward than in the hole.

I agree that you haven't given much information about yourself and thus determining whether you are an idiot or not , I believe, can only be derived in how you have worded your question, and analysing why the question existed in the first place. (ie what purpose does this question serve?)

Yes you are an idiot for three reasons: Firstly in analysing your question, you used the word "AM". Only an idiot would use capital letters in a word that does not require them. Instead, you should have used "Am".

Secondly, you are an idiot because your grammar is incorrect. The word "an" should have been used as the indefinite article as opposed to "a". Only an idiot would have used the indefinite article "a" before a word beginning with a vowel sound.

Thirdly you are an idiot because you have made another mistake in asking your question. After using a question mark, the rule is that you must immediately use a capital letter for the next word. In this case, "if" should actually be "If". Only an idiot would not have known this.

However, in my analysis, I have tried to answer the question, "what purpose does this question serve?". I have come to the following conclusion:

You are not an idiot because in asking your question (despite the obvious spelling and grammar mistakes), I believe that you have some desire to know more about yourself, and to ask certain higher level questions of yourself. An idiot would be too idiotic to be concerned about the possibility of being an idiot and with all probability wouldn't have asked the question in the first place.

I also believe that you were trying to be funny in asking your question in the first place. (I believe this assumption to be completely fair as I laughed aloud for about a minute before I wrote my response- but that's mostly because I am an idiot).

Sometimes there is a fine line between idiocy and humour. (Some examples include Adam Sandler, Steve Martin, Osama bin Laden) but here there is a clear distinction between the two as an idiot would not have asked the question in the first place. I believe that in this instance it was a person having a joke and not an idiot being an idiot.
