Many of the "right wingers" that you refer to want to see poor people succeed and to participate in the joy of working hard to build their own American dream. Those "right wingers" believe that giving people a handout without any accountability is actually harming that person in the long run. After 40 some years of the "Great Society" and trillions of dollars spent on program for the poor, most of the country is also coming to realize the a hand-out is not nearly as good as a hand-up.

I don't consider myself a right winger, but I do know many well to do people who have worked very hard to make themselves successful. They are generally a generous bunch who are more than willing to help poor people. They get a bad rap because they think people would be better off to work for their hand-up. I don't know many "right wingers" who are reluctant to show concern for real poor people.

I would call this a difference of opinion on what works. Liberal Democrats see the way to hold their power base by handouts. Conservative Republicans want people to work hard and become capitalists and join their party's base. At the end of the day, both are interested in helping actual poor people.

They've always been the party of greed and self indulgence since the birth of the party. They don't give a rat's *** about the poor and struggling. The bastards won't raise the minimum wage but hell ask them for tax cuts for rich folks and you only have to ask once!
And to jasonzbtz, name a single program for the poor that the democrats have voted "no" for! You're a liar like your president!

Because they live in their own little fairy tale world where they have more than enough money to get anything they could possible want. They stay so wrapped up in themselves that they cant or wont see the suffering going on in their own country. Yet, like some movie stars, they feel oh so special when it comes to donating money to other countries. They could care less about the people in this country.

Oh and Rebel gal, your comment could not be any further from the truth. You my dear are only showing how little you really do know!!!!

Because their wealth is built on the poor. They can't get rich quickly if they have to pay people a reasonable wage. Thats just going to cut into their outrageous profits.

They have refashioned greed into a virtue.

This has long been the goal of televangelists, but now we have an political part that is little more than a TV preacher explaining why you should give your money to him rather than to the poor person down the street.

It's very "1984": Greed is Generosity. Debt is Wealth. Fear is Safety.

Why are Left winger so quick to give lip service to the ideas on helping the poor, but when it's time to make the tough decisions that are needed to be made to implement these programs they vote "no"

Sorry, but you don't get credit just for having the idea!
