Get some better friends! And think about why it is that rich people are rich ... usually by holding on to their money!

No need to shame him, just don't pay for him anymore. Don't invite him out, if he asks to go out (don't go alone with him, he may ask you to pay again) go with a bunch of friends. And if he pulls his usual, just ignore him hehe and let someone offer(if anyone does at all). Hopefully, he end up paying himself or if someone does comment "Man, why you never pay your own bills?" in a joking way or something, but the crowd will get it. Oh, go somewhere expensive, but don't over do it, u wanna be able to pay for your own meal. And don think too evil, he'll be taught his lesson eventually, even if not by u. Karma.

Instead of shame (which can backfire, and which is pretty passive-aggressive), have you considered clear-cut "I feel...." statements?

"I feel irritated when we go out for a meal, because it seems like I always get the check, or we very rarely split it. I can't keep affording this. I'd like you to pick up the costs more evenly in the future."

If he's being a consistent moocher, what are people getting out of it by tolerating this behavior and not calling him on it?

My God I cannot stand people who are mean!!!
You are in a very delicate position
If this person is really your friend then I don't think they could do this to you!!
Tell them outright or let yourself be treated like **** forever.
Why don't you refuse to go out with this person, telling them you are too poor and see if they offer you any help, if they don't then you will know that its not a real friend!
I don't think shaming anyone is very nice even if they are mean but really you have to take it upon yourself (IF YOU ARE THEIR FRIEND) to tell them or live with it and ignore it.
It all depends on your relationship!
Good Luck I'm on your side

Invite him out for a drink and when you have ordered say you've forgotten your wallet, failing that tell him he is a tight wad and your sick of it and either he starts treating people with the respect they deserve or you will have to consider him an ex friend.

No need to shame him....just stop accepting invitations to go with him.

Next time he calls and wants to go out tell him this:

I'd really love to, but I am trying to cut back on some of my "leisure spending," if he says OK..see you later...be done with him. He may just surprise you and say:
NO problem, I have extra money....I'll pay for both of us.

Use me once..its your fault...use me twice...its my fault.

Just come out with it and say - come on "tight a**e its your round - say it laughing if he doesn't take the hint just say - i'm sorry I can only afford to buy for myself- at least he won't sponge of you then- I hate people like that!!

Simply disown him as a friend, or boldly say "hey how about you paying the next round !"

Find his credit card and donate a very large sum to your favourite charity. Hopefully he will be far too embarrased to take it back. :)

'Forget' your wallet next time you are out
and make it clear he owes you
that should start the conversation about how tight he is
if his, if he has no excuses its time you stopped being a doormat mate!
