i think so. jus look at the over all variety in rock. songs about love and friendship and bad child hoods and bad relationships and even god. all in various styles like emo or death metal or pop. rap is jus the same ol same over and over. drug dealing pimping and clubbing. with exception of a handfull of artist. rock has its moments when its not so great but with rap u have to look hard for a song that doesnt sound exactly the same as everything else. sad really. what do u guys think?

Rock has been around longer, so it has had more time to evolve into different forms.

If you're going to count emo, death metal, and pop as rock - then you mine as well count r&b, blues, and jazz as rap. One isn't more creative than the other, and you apparently don't know much about rap music. If you don't like a certain genre, then you're only going to know what's most popular.

If you stand far enough back all music sounds the same.

If you think rap can't be creative, then listen to these songs:

Rip Vs Bis by Canibus
The idea behind the song is that he's battling with himself, which represents the duality in us all.

Bottle Dreams by Eyedea
A rap about a ten year old girl, who was a prodigy being raped by her father. It's done in a very emotional way, and is an amazing story.

That Night by Atmosphere
This rap is about a girl who was raped and killed at one of the artist's shows. If it doesn't touch you, then you're not human.

Forest Whitaker by Brother Ali
This rap is about loving who you are as a person and not trying to mold yourself into how magazines and television tell you how you look.

If that's not enough to convince you then try.

Makeshift Patriot by Sage Francis

Theme by Sole

Babies With Guns by Aesop Rock

Anything by Corporate Avenger.

PS: Most mainstream music sucks. If you ever want good music, look to the underground. And f club music, it's not made to be good, it's simply made to give people something to dance too.

rap has no talent at all. all they do is record beats off of a synthesizer and put there words over that. if they had any real musical talent they would actually play some damn instruments, and then sing over that id like to see one of these so called rap stars pick up a guitar and actually show some talent by playing a real song that they actuall right instead of singing over computer generated sounds. what is the talent in that other than getting there words to rhyme. i have played guitar for 16 years. i might not be famous but at least the songs i write or play have some kind of meaning behind them.

You got it. Also, Rap relies a lot on sampling, which is taking parts from somone's song. What is up with that? It's just very lazy.

I think so. Or maybe the similarities in rock music is not as obvious as it is in rap music.

I think both genres are creative in their own right. It takes a lot of intelligence to make sensible phrases that rhyme and are appealing, while rock has more flexibility for creativity.

I love them both.

i think that they are both equal... i think that as much passion goes into both ... if the artist is passionate about his music that is all that counts.... there is really no way to judge it, you will get different opinions depending on what type of music a person likes.
