It is a good idea to place an ad in the newspaper about looking for a roommate with certain requirements? Or how about recruiting from a website like MySpace.com after a few months of knowing one another? I don't want to be living by myself because of the risks of living alone, i.e. criminals. 18-24 year old women have one of the highest death rates and risk levels because of being victims to aggressive men.

Many colleges and universities have a department that help match students in need of housing with people who have space/rooms to rent. It's a bit more comforting than randomly choosing someone off the street through an ad in the newspaper. Depending on your situation, you might even be able to apply to host/house a foreign exchange student -- in my area they pay about $500 per month and there is surprisingly little responsibility on the part of the host. interview them as would do for a job,do background checks on everyone(e.i. credit,police,rental,) dont take anyone at there word when you let some into your home you want to make sure that you are going to be safe.the computer is always a good place to start,you can find out anything about anyone any more just make sure to ask the right type of questions, take notes and pay attention to there body launage.most people don't know that they are giving you signs into who they really are.if you do place an ad make sure that you are very open with what you want,stick to the computer, though this way you can look up there profile before you meet them.

i would go with newspapers or any add! just make sure you have a questionaire they need to fill out and interview them if you feel uncomfy just say no to them!
but meet them first!

If there's no friends, get to know people more. Just remember how they act. If there really messy and sloppy, well i won't be coming to your house!
