What state is this in?
In New York, for instance, theres something known as Supplemental uninsured Motorist coverage. (SUM benefits).
It means that your friend might be paying a little extra on his own insurance policy for coverage if some loser without insurance hits him.
If his policy has that coverage (look on the policy for "SUM or UM benefits") then he can go after his own policy for recovery.
PS: Well, I dont know Texas law, but it might be the same. Have his check out his own policy for the terms i mentioned.
Good Luck!

Not too much more he can do. The insurance company will give 'fair market value' for the vehicle.
If his meds are being covered by his work insurance, there's really no reason for the insurance company to pay any addtional money for medical visits etc.. However, they can be held liable for 'out of pocket' expenses.
On the rare occasion, he may be able to 'double dip' which is where his work pays for med costs and the insurance company also pays.
My suggestion is to get an attorney asap.

If your friend's insurance paid him for the damaged truck, and your friend doesn't have medical bills, then your friend has no claim against the other person. Your friend's insurance company may go after the other person for reimbursement, though.
The few days of missed work are just lost . . .

Take the money and get a good lawyer and sue. He'll have to rent another truck for awhile, but should get a judgment against the other, ticketed, driver unless it's a false name or illegal alien or sumsuch rascal.

All he can do is try suing in civil court for loss, but its rare that anyone acually ever gets anything out of that.
