When Columbus, came he wasn't the first person to come America,and think about it. At the time he landed,he saw Native American(Indian that live in America) .Although he came and began the live of American.The earliest ones to first step to America soil was during the Ice age when A piece of ice connected Alaska and Asia.the cave mans crossed over it stepped into America.This was about 20,000 thousands of years ago.

Im in the 8th grade, and it wasn't untill i was in 6th grade that they told us that there was other people that came to america before him. Now they kind of touch on the subject, but they still give columbus the credit for civilizing and settling it

What about Aboriginal people... weren't they there first so therefore didn't they "discover" the Americas. What about The Vikings who "discovered" Newfoundland in Canada.

Columbus was not the first... he was just a bragger.

They give Vikings the credit for the 'discovery'. Columbus is given the credit for starting the mass migrations of Europeans here.

I am in the 7th grade and all my life, all my teachers who have taught at that level of hisory have alltold me that he was indeed the first one. Dont know too much about it cause I hate history but that is how mine hae taught me if that helps at all!

i am in the 6th grade and i didn't learn until 5th grade that someone might have actually discovered it before him. i don't think younger kids are ready to understand the real story, but they will b by 5th grade.
