Degree doesn't make any sense, unless you have college-educated water.

Oxygen is most plentiful near the surface.

Phytoplankton must live near the surface.

nutrients. oxygen is produced by green plants not found at the sea floor. Plankton requires sunlight not found beyound 20 feet deep and degree is redundant (the same thing) to cold. A gross way to think of it is, what's at the bottom of the sea? whale $h!t (fertilizer)
