People always hurt the ones they love the most. There's two reasons: 1. You won't go anywhere. 2. They don't want to be vulnerable to you hurting them so they'll hurt you first.

Spur of the moment things that are done without any thought being given to them, I have said and done things that I know has hurt my mate, I would give anything if I could take them back.

This is not love. This is immature and self-centered behavior. If you are in a loving relationship with someone then a mutually acceptable path of behavior is the best.
If you are just in it for yourself, then your motives are not real and not satisfactory.
I would recommend re-evaluating these relationships.

they just say it for the sake of it. they never meant it in the first place because their love for you would keep them from doing the things that they know would hurt you. their love protects you. haha yeah that sounds soo cheesy but it's true. and sometimes it's just because their heads are stronger than their hearts.

i think it might be because you hurt them somehow, and they weren't able to let you know in an appropriate way, so they try to hurt you so you can empathise with how they feel.
