If so, which incarnation do you think is best.

1,2,3,Millennium Bell etc.....

Any other Oldfield pieces do it for you?

I favour TB2 out of all the versions as I love spacey, sparkly synth work and the electronic beauty of it.

Closely followed by TB1 of course.

Also, I love 'Portsmouth' by Mike Oldfield.

Tubular Bells 2 is the best for me by far, though I like one of his other albums (I forget what it's called, not Tubular Bells 1 or 3 though), I think it's the one with Foreign Affair on.

Tangerine Dream are also very good.

Tubular Bells. After that, Ommadawn sounds like a rehash, more of same. TB was groundbreaking when it came out. And I can't agree with the other poster about On Horseback. For me it was totally out of place and silly. "I'd rather be with you, than flying through space"? Come on!

I totally adore Tubular Bells. As kids we had it ona vinyl version and made up dances to the various changes. There is a bit on the B side that sounds like horses galloping and that's my favourite bit.

Yep, I'm a massive M.O. fan. Think I prefer 'Tubular Bells 2' to the original.

I LOVE the songs such as 'Crime of Passion', 'To France', 'Tricks of the Light', 'Man in the Rain', 'Pictures in the Dark', 'Earth Moving'.

I wish he'd do a few more songs than instrumentals.

Do people realise that as well as launching 'Virgin Records' he was one of the first artists to use 'Sampling' in records? I think the first example was in the 1984 Discovery 'Talk about your life' where he used a whole section from his other hit 'To France' ?

A true genius.

Tubular bells is immense! In Dulci Jubilo is a fun xmas song, although a wee bit silly (think pixies holding hands and skipping)

Original, with Viv Stanshall monologue! I loved Oldfield's stuff up until I think it was called Amarok. Through him I also discovered David Bedford (through Collaborations), but could not get all his stuff.

Mike has great songs. But on the whole his albums are rather uneven except for OMMADAWN which I think is superb from the beiginning to the very end.

The first one is absolutely wonderful - certain bits of it make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. The Killing Fields soundtrack does it for me too.
