DR. Phil would prescribe something called "classical conditioning" which is a neat trick you can try with the help of a trusted person.
First you touch a badly drawn picture of a mouse then a cartoon pictures of Pinky and the Brain, then a photo of a cute lab mouse. then your cat's toy mouse. then a stuffed toyed rat. then your friend's pet mouse. then a bunch of mice. Take as long as you need as you progress through each stage.
I used to be very very frighten of spiders (ha ha) but after many screams and running away, this trick did work out.
however try not to touch wild rat or mouse, get something to grab it as it can spread disease if it bites but it's very rare that it will bite.

OK I understand you to an extent. I too am terrified of them. I can handle seeing them dead but to even think of touching them gives me chill bumps. One week ago my sister in law calls me, wants me to come to her house because my niece has a favor to ask. When I get there a five year old little girl asks me to take care of her animals for her. I couldn't possibly say no....HA, I should have. Well needless to say I have two pet mice now... Rose & Lilly. And seeing as to how I am mortified by them, I was wondering how this would work. I did clean the cage the other day. I dropped one in my living room (I was going to dump them from the cage into the ball). When this thing got loose I thought I was going to die...
My heart was pounding so hard, and I started tearing up. Well I ended up picking it up by the tail ... I am not as scared of them as I was ... but I damn sure don't like them. Maybe you should buy one as a pet, hell mine live in a little cage that I tape close... And I know they aren't getting out, I feed them every couple days, and clean cage as needed ( only once so far). This may sound obsurd but facing your fears is the only way I know to conquer them...

Maybe you should try by having a freind come over and disconnecting your mouse from your computer and they can take it away. Go out and get a laptop you don't need a mouse for them.

Start by pictures, and videos, then work your way up to a pet hamster... by visiting pet sort.
And remember you're like 100 x's it size, and all a mouse wants is food.
