This happens when I am on line and off line. Sometimes my screen flickers too. I am connected through a DSL connection and I have a firewall and anti-virus protection.

It sounds very much as though you have a nasty virus or piece of spyware or malware in your computer. If you've already got an up-to-date anti-virus program, and an anti-spyware program, I'd suggest booting into "Safe Mode" by tapping the F8 key during the boot process.
Once you're in Safe Mode, run a complete check on your system with the anti-virus and anti-spyware programs. Hopefully this will get rid of the problem. Good luck.
