I find that is a dumb way to describe something. Please let me know your thoughts.

I concur. When I say it I say it in reference to something being stupid. But I don't think that being homosexual is stupid. It's has become this slang that I cannot get out of my vocabulary. It annoys me.
The sad part is, people don't correct you when you say it. I would think that it could be just like using the N word.. and that people would be just as offended, but they are not.
A little side story, my best friend is a lesbian and she says it from time to time and it annoys her girlfriend to death.

In the past the word Gay meant Happy, but I guess the Gay's made it up...in there terms maybe Gay is a happy thing....figure that ....

I guess people use it that way, because people think homosexuals are weird so they say "that's gay" or use it meaning the word weird.

for the same reason "dumb" is connotated with someone who is unintelligent
(even though dumb has nothing to do with your IQ level; its just society prejudices you see)
