i recently bought a philodendren. almost as soon as i got it home the leaves started to droop and the stems turn pulpy and slimy what is going on?

Sounds like too much water.

Move it to a place that doesn't get sunlight all day and let the dirt dry out before you water it again. When you water it, pour the water in until it comes out in the tray, then empty the tray. Then continue to let it dry out between waterings.

Same answer TOO MUCH WATER.
Now I would try a fungicide to stop the rot. If you accomplish that then cut water ot once a week, and the rest of the time just lightly spray water from a mist bottle, if you have a really dry environment!

I agree with John, too much water.
Here in Barbados they grow up giant tree trunks and their roots only receive water when it rains with the water running over the roots and away. So high humidity is better than wet feet.
Trim off any mushy bits and let the cuts dry out - hope you can save it.
