The President's Cabinet helps him make decisions. The cabinet includes the Vice-president, The Secretary of State, the Treasurer, the Secretary of Defense, the Attorney General.

He has a whole staff to help him. In addition to office help, he has a Chief of Staff, a press secretary(currently Tony Snow, formerly of Fox News Channel), various cabinet officers who oversee different departments. He has speechwriters. I know it was only a TV show, but The West Wing showed the activity that goes on in the background at the White House. If it's being shown in syndication anywhere you might want to check it out.
