Basically any social intercourse I have with women makes me nervous. I'm very shy, but when my wife is with me, I feel very confident. How do I feel more confident on my own?

It is AMAZING how many people took the suggestive wording of your question and totally misunderstood and misinterpreted it! Social intercourse=talk . You have trouble talking to other women, do you? It sounds like you are hyperaware that they are women and that freezes you up when it comes time to make conversation. I'd say the only way to get over this is to practice. Join a social group, like a reading circle or something like that, or go to the gym, where men and women work out side by side and exchange pleasantries over bench pressing and spotting. Or perhaps you'll discover that many women love reading science fiction or something like that. Just join an organized group that includes many women and practice! That's my suggestion!
