I'm about 6 weeks pregnant. Tonight I am REALLY wanting a shrimp, mushroom, and cheese quessadilla from my favorite Mexican place. Is it ok to eat shrimp and the soft cheese the serve in Mexican restaraunts if it is only once in a while? I know this sounds silly but I don't want to eat it if it is bad for my baby.

Alcohol, Soda's any Junk Foods. and Too Much Fatty Foods.

Eating shrimps wont hurt as long as you are not allergic to it, and its properly cooked.

and also avoid Smoking.

Yes, just make sure any seafood is properly cooked. called " what to expect when you are expecting" by Heidi Murkoff. It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. Your question as well as many others that you would not expect is in there. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not.
Good Luck!

I can't remember where I read it, but in the 3rd trimester avoid peanuts, peanut oil, and peanut butter. I was very glad to see this being suggested! My 1st daughter has severe sunflower oil allergies and peanut allergies....my main craving during the last 2 months of pregnancy with her and what I ate for 3 weeks after delivery--- every night a toasted bagel with peanut butter on it and a huge amount of Dorritos (which contain sunflower oil). Please, avoid these items. Also a friend at work ate PB&J sandwiches every day for her last month of pregnancy and her son is allergic to Peanuts, peanut oils, and PB.

There are certain foods that you're *supposed* to avoid. Some of the science behind certain things is a little dubious. But do the research.

Here's one article I've seen on the subject:

I think you should stay away from fish, shellfish, and any kind of seafood. They have a lot of different bacteria like things that, if not cooked 100% correct, can harm the baby.

its great. there is lots of calcium in cheese, and babies need lots of it to help them grow!! the only thing to 100% avoid, are things like coffee, chocolate, soda, anything with caffeine. that can give your babies lots of problems.
