John Marshall. He was the 4th Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Judges are not supposed to be leaders, which is what makes his contribution to the constitution and our government so incredible. Marbury v. Madison was probably his most influential decision. While Marshall didn't lead in the traditional sense, like Dr. King, he lead in a passive way that tremendously helped our country. This example might be too far out there, but it would impress your teacher if you could make it work. No one ever looks to the supreme court for leadership but in the case of judicial review (something that came from the Marbury decision) you could definately argue for Marshall's leadership. Ex. His idea of judicial review was realized in cases like Brown v. Board of Education, when the Supreme Court ruled that separate but equal was by definition un-equal.

dslant6 is right. FDR had fantastic leadership skills. Although he was very anti-capitalist and liberal, he did a tremendous job of motivating everyone in the country to win World War II.

Winston Churchill. He warned people about Hitler. No one would listen to him. Eventually Great Britain had to turn to him to save the country.
