Why is America so rich and so relatively stupid?

I don't hate America because its people are fat. No, I don't hate America because they don't care about the rest of the world. I don't even hate them because they waste so damn much. I do hate them because even with all this wealth and prosperity they still suck when it comes to education. Jeez you guys are one of the stupidest nations of all the nations given free education. But I guess you don't have to think very much when you just sit back and let Asia and S. America do your work for you. Your forefathers would be so pissed if they knew all the crap they put up with was to create such a disgusting bunch of people. And I am an American.

You got me I am not American. I actually love America but when I asked this other question all of these Americans were saying really stupid things. I love America and hate it when people say anything rude about you guys. Vote McCain 2008!

Theres a lot of angry uneducated people out there, not only in America either. I thank you for your statement, and you have every right to make it. I hope you don't even bother to read half of those answers. Education is the answer, its the only answer for today, tomorrow and the future. Everyone on this planet should have the right to education for as long as we live for as long as we can read or as long as we can listen.

Doesn't matter what country invented the light bulb or the wheel, as long the world benefits and grows from it.

America is brand new, discovered in 1492 or close to that. So 500 + years is nothing at all. As a nation they have a million things to learn, and as a planet, we all have about a billion. I know i have about a trillion things on my list of to learn.

I hate to disagree with you, because there are plenty of skinny poor people right here in this country. Matter of fact there are people who go to bed each night hungry, right here in this country! Maybe the so called free education is what is wrong with a lot of poeple in this country. I don't know which part of Disneyland you come from, but there are plenty of people out of work right here in this country, that can't find a job! Have you been down through the hood lately? Have you seen people living under bridges right here in this country? Maybe there is a bunch of people like that in this country, but the majority are not like this at all!! We do have a lot of over weight people here in this country, but we do not have a bunch of lazy people as you think sir. I know there are plenty of hard working, honest, poor people who would love to have it made, or just be able to eat a decent meal once a day, right here in this country. This may not be too great of a country, but it is the best country to live in, in the whole world! As for being relatively stupid, I don't see how we ever got that space shuttle to go up, or was intelligent enough to have more fortune five-hundred companies than any other country in the world. We may be discusting, and some may be rich, and a few may be lazy, but we can wipe a country right off the face of the earth with the push of a button. Maybe we are not as in control of our bodies as we would like to be, but please don't judge all americans by the way a hand full act. Yes, i too am an american, and I don't agree with most of the politicts going on today, but we did the work before the people came to do the work for us, and we will do the work once again when they leave. I do hope you can see beyond the forrest, and realize most americans are good people that work hard to have nothing.

I guess if you look at the worst America has to offer than I would agree with you! If you look at the best that America has to offer and the people then I would say you are full of it! Let me know when some Asian or South American can come and do my job for me. I would love to pay them minimum wage so I could go home and sit on my Phat ***! Since you wrote everything from the you perspective, I have to conclude you do not consider yourself to be one of the stupid Americans or you aren't really an American.

We let S. America and Asia do our work for us because we were intelligent enough to become the business leader of the world. We are also smart enough to achieve military hegemony.

The decision to outsource work to countries with a comparative advantage is actually an intelligent thing to do. It seems that every time you write something you just show your own stupidity.

Someone once said it is better to say nothing and have people think you are stupid than open your mouth and prove it.

In regards to the fat statement, England is right up there according to all the studies I've read. By 2020 more parents will be outliving their children because of obesity in the kids. The American educational system does suck. This was brought about by the Liberals who feel that if we make them stupid enough they will vote for us always. You may have heard the term "Dumbing down". Of course the liberal believe they are giving minorities a step up. I believe that they are underestimating the power of the brain and doing all minorities a disservice with their racist thinking.

What do you mean we don't care about the world, we donate more effort and money to any relief cause, we essentially feed the entire world, and how do you consider that we are stupid? Based on test scores? Or how our country is doing? Don't we have some of the best universities and colleges in the world, and some of the best researchers also?

First of all, you don't have to be smart to be rich. Ask anyone who has a boss who can't tie his own shoes.
Secondly, Americans are relatively stupid because we've become inherently lazy. Why bother with trying to educate ourselves when we can 'get by' - and live pretty damned comfortably - by 'learning' everything we can from the conservative-biased media?
We are among the stupidest nations on Earth (look at the idiots we elect to the Presidency and the U.S. Congress!).
Until Americans get off their lazy butts, put down the remote, and actually start demanding their country be returned to them, our politicians will continue sucking off the taxpayers' teat.
And we, the people - like lobsters languishing in a pot of lukewarm water - will not start screaming until the water starts to boil. Then we'll scream in agony over our own apathy.
We've allowed ourselves to be dumbed-down by television programs aimed at a 12-year-old's mentality; by a sports industry that preys on our vicious need for 'winning' at all costs; by a lethargic educational system that cares more about its administrative needs than the needs of its students; and by the most corrupt, evil, incompetent, arrogant political system in the world.
All Americans care about is their $60,000 gas-guzzling SUVs; Britney Spears' love life; their favorite NASCAR driver; Jacko's pedophilia; "low prices - everyday" at WalMart for junk we don't even need; and professional landscaping for our beautiful $300,000 mortgaged-to-the-hilt homes.
Few American citizens even bother to participate in our political process; even fewer would have the balls to actually bear arms against our tyrannical, oppressive government (as allowed for by our U.S. Constitution). We're just too damn fat and lazy - and WE wonder why the rest of the world despises us!
We represent 5% of the global population, yet we squander 55% of the world's resources!
We don't recycle. We guffaw at the idea of global warming. We have no interest in protecting or preserving our environment. We don't give a damn about the delicate ecological balance so necessary for survival of every living creature on Earth. It's all about US. Americans are the most selfish, self-centered, egotistical, lazy, corrupt, deceitful, manipulating people on the planet, and we choose to do nothing by continue indulging ourselves in luxury while the rest of the world struggles to survive. We are the epitome of the 'disposable society' - not only recklessly and carelessly disposing of our waste, but disposing of our family relationships, marriages, children, and our elderly. Nothing means anything to us except our 'careers' and making the 'big bucks' so that we can indulge our materialism and satisfy our gluttonous appetites for everything from $100-a-plate dinners at plush restaurants to million-dollar mansions with twelve bathrooms for three residents. We waste, we throw away, and we do it all over again, completely ignorant of what we've done to this wonderful world.

They are not relatively stupid that is the reason for there collective wealth, and having people do work for you is smart and beneficial for everyone. You sound young, see the rest of the world and then complain about the US believe me you don't want to live somewhere else.

I blame the Public education system, they are owned by the democrats (NEA and the teachers unions). which means democrats have a vested interest in not changing anything or reforming failing schools and failing teachers. (means their #1 supporters will get fired for incompetence). All they do is throw more money at the problem which only exacerbates the problem.
