i.e. 1.6 million milimetres

Most of the above answers are correct, but here is a very easy to calculate it your self and not have to remember anything. You only have to remember one very useful conversion, that one inch is 2.54 cm or 25.4 mm. Then we have:

i mile = 1760yds = 1760 x 3ft = 1760 x 3 x12in
= 1760 x3 x 12 x 25.4 mm
= 1,609, 344 mm exactly
