Thank You everybody who has responded so far. I was born in Evanston, grew up on Wilmette, and always loved the good ol Chicago dog, but my family moved away when I was 15, that was 13 years ago, now I'm going back for a visit and though out of touch have a hankering for an authentic Chicago dog.

I like Portillo's but, there are many other spots to get a good Chicago hot dog. An easier question would be " where can you get a bad hot dog in Chicago " because there aren't many

I would say a "Maxwell Street" hot dog, you can't go wrong.

I like Portillo's, but it's not a local company. You can get them out of state too.

But, to me, the best hot dog anywhere (in the country) is a beef hot dog (they just taste better, I'm not against pork), steamed (boiled sucks all the flavor out)

Hope this helps!

Portillo is great but try Gold Coast dogs. Each neighborhood in and around they city they have hot dog stands that also give the hotdog justice.

Portello's for all tourists. There are better places that they are in local neghborhoods, but Portello's serves a great Chicago dog.
