The owners should be charged with neglect to both the children and for their duties as responsible dog owners. The Rotty's are not at fault it is what they are trained as...idiots like these give any breed of dog a bad name...

People don't think. I've met people who have dogs that I know are a genuine risk to babies and small children, and the owners won't accept it. But in this case the baby was indoors in the cot. They thought the dogs were outside, and someone left a door open. Thats an accident.

The fact is that a baby doesn't appear to be human to an untrained dog! People just don't get this; but babies don't resemble adults, they squeak, they smell interesting, and they flap and wriggle. To an untrained dog a baby is seen as prey, like a squeaky toy.
Dogs have to be trained how to behave around babies - and even then should never be left with them. Parents and dog owners must both take responsibility for teaching their kids and dogs how to behave around each other. You teach your kid how to cross the road, and never to go off with strangers; but so many parents don't think twice before letting their kids appraoch and touch dogs. I'm horrified by the risks people take - and I'm both a dog owner and a parent.
I feel desperately sorry for these parents; they have paid dearly for their mistake and will suffer for the rest of their lives.

From the news tonight (and BBC website) they thought the baby was safe in the bedroom and the dogs were outside but a fire exit wasn't properly shut and the dogs got into the house.

The last thing these people need is any more guilt than they must already be carrying...

the dogs got into the house and dragged the baby out onto the varanda...instead of having cheap shots and a high and mighty attitude....try thinking the hell these poor people are going through....

Yes, I think the Grandparents who were supposed to be watching their grandchild while her parents went away for the weekend should be charged with neglect. I agree that the baby never should have been left alone period, she was too young to be anywhere by herself.
Yes, they will be haunted by this for the rest of their lives, but had they been responsible grandparents and taken care of the baby as they promised the baby's parents, she would still be alive.

I know a woman who buys dolls at carboot sales for her dog to play with and it tears them to bits. She was horrified when I pointed out that if the dog ever came into contact with a real baby it would probably treat it the same way as the dolls

my two little dogs never take any notice of the baby- however i never leave them alone together- you never know- same as i'd never leave my 20 month old with the baby!- an accident waiting to happen!
A bigger sentence cannot be given to the parents - they will have to live with what happened for the rest of there lives- Prison would be a doddle!

the baby wasn't left on the veranda, the baby was left in the living area upstairs. the dogs got in through a opened fire door (that was somehow left open) and took the baby out of the cot on to the roof... such a tragedy...

no they are suffering enough. I have had dogs before but wouldn't ever leave them together alone even i am not naive enough to think nothing could happen, a responsible dog owner would know that.

Poor dogs, they got put down for what they were trained to do. Everyone is suffering here, lets leave it alone.
