Has anyone used SLICK 50 or another PTFE-based product in their car, and gotten great results (ie, like 400,000 miles on an engine)??

I've heard that the PTFE products leave a film behind, which over time COULD theoretically cause problems long-term, with repeated use. But that might just be hot air.

I also have a friend that swears by Lucas, puts some in with every oil change. Opinions?

My brother in law owns a roofing company and does a lot of driving, state to state. He uses slick 50 in his pickup.
He has put over 1/2 million miles on it and he's not the kind of guy that has regular maintenance done on his vehicles. The engine is kind of noisy. But it's still going.

The FTC has gotten on the makers of Slick 50 for fraudulent claims. Avoid the additives and use a good quality oil. One micro lubricant was actually found to be mineral (baby) oil with a bit of pink dye. Synthetic oil is a little better than petroleum oil, but is more costly. I've ran an engine over a quarter million miles on regular old oil and got along just fine. I've also ran an engine on synthetic and it blew after 48,000 miles. So there's no real guarantees except to change it regularly.

I've had really good luck with synthetic oils: Amsoil or Mobil 1. Slick 50 in my older two trucks has seemed to do quite well. And Engine Sentry oil filter magnets all around. I drop the magnets into the filters and they do a great job of getting what the filter misses – they look furry with steel shavings at the oil change. Stopped my oldest (1984) pickup from smoking after two oil changes.

Here's the deal! Don't be putting any of that "junk" in your motor! If you keep the engine tuned properly and serviced regularly, not being a cheapscape and use good quality products, your engine will give you 200,000 miles easily today! Those after market products are just "gimmicks" and I would refrain from using them!
People who complain about low mileage on their vehicles or lots of repairs are the one's who have "POOR" maintainence habits!!
They purchase a vehicle out of their financial league just for show and trying to keep up with the Jone's and are unable or too lazy to provide good maintainenece! Buy what you can afford and set up an "EXCELLENT" preventative maintainence schedule and you'll have years of trouble free service!!!!!!! Leave those "gimmicks" right on the shelf where they belong!!!!!

I was running Duralube blew a heater hose and ran the truck out of antifreeze. I was in the middle of BFE so I said what the H--- and drove it anyway. Peg the temp gage and the gas pedal made it all the way home!!! Fix the hose and it still ran for a year then I put a new motor in it.....
