Pour some soda pop (Coke, Pepsi) on them. It will disolve the corrosion.

Use a mix of baking soda and water. Pour over terminals and brush with a stiff brush. You can get a cheap terminal cleaner at an auto parts store, so you can clean the inside of the terminals as well. After they're clean and reinstalled, spray terminal protector on cable ends and terminals ( also avail. at auto store)
You should be set.

For dirty terminals, cover with baking soda, let set 10 minutes, then rinse off with water. Afterwords, scrub with a wire brush.

For new batteries, get the red and green felt washers to put on the terminals below the battery cables. That'll keep 'em clean!
