I don't understand it. For instance, if a trans woman had had sexual reassignment surgery, and facial feminisation surgery, but told people she'd been raised a boy a lot of people would distance themselves even if they were good friends before.

Why? Why does gender change make people so uncomfortable? Why do trans women and men that 'pass' impeccably still get treated as "a transexual" instead of the man or woman they are inside?

Just as an addition; no I am not transexual. My girlfriend is. She's also not a "tranny", as we both find the word highly offensive.

an example of what you are talking about happened with me. my ex outed me as gay, when i clarified it saying i was transsexual my mother got real upset and distant. ive also had some friends stop talking to me becuase they were i guess disgusted.

its not like we "choose" to seek surgery or live in the opposite gender. its who we are and thats the only way we can be happy. but people shy away from things that are different, thats why man loves to kill things cause he fears it, well some things he wants to eat but. if your afraid of a spider do you treat it well or step on it crushing the hell out of it. society is afraid of us because we are different, things are progressing but there is a long way to go.

basically its all about fear of somthing different or unknown.
thats also why we get the "freak" label.

I dunno, I guess its coz ppl r scared of anything that is different, and it's a difficult concept to grasp why anyone would have to resort to such drastic measures to be happy. But if the person is happy, everyone should just let them be and allow them to get on with their lives. I think it's really stupid that sum1 wud treat them differently after they found out, if they had previously been friends..It just goes to show how shallow ppl can be.
