First of all, its called reformat not restart. Im not trying to be picky but there is a big difference.

Anyways, onto your problem. Well reformatting your computer probably will get rid of the spyware. However, how do you know you have(had) spyware? If you do(did) you can check to see if you have it anymore. If the scans come up clean then you probably dont need to reformat because you do not have anymore spyware.

Try these products which are all free! They should clear everything up.

1.Go to www.download.com
2. Search Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware.
3. Download and install these two.
4. Update their definitions.
5. Scan and remove everything they find.
6. Go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com
7. Click the scan now button and it will take 30-60min (might take longer depending on how much stuff you have on the computer) for the scan to complete.
8.Check all of the things if found and hit delete.
9. Restart (meaning turn off then on WITHOUT the CD) your computer and see if you have any more problems. (you probably wont).

Good Luck !

Spyware,
Inmost cases, a factory restart or reboot of the factory system will not give rid of the spyware. Spyware is placed into root directories or in the register logs. The best method will be one of two things...First restart "reformat" your computer with the factory software; then install a spyware blocker such as Adaware Personal Se "free" and Spybot also "free"... Update both programs and run prior to installing any additional software. This should solve your problems. I would recommend performing scans weekly to keep up with spayware and adware attachments. Good luck.

If you do the factory restart, you may still have it. Try doing a system restore to a point a few days before you got the spyware.

Yes, using the recovery CD will remove all traces of malware that you have on your computer as it will restore the boot record and partition exactly as it was when you purchased it.

Please note that if you do use a recovery CD then all your data and programs will be lost so make a BACKUP. Also if any of the data you backup is infected with malware, then using that data again will reinfect you.

Those so called "recovery" CDs will remove the spyware AND all your data and files too. Back-up everything before you proceed!

There is a small probability that the spyware was embedded or, that they resent it to your ip address after you restarted.
