add 5.2 and 2.7, keep the 4th power the same. Answer: 7.9 x 10 to the 4th power. The power remains the same, but in order to add or subtract numbers in scientific notation, the powers must be the SAME.

i'd do 5.2 times 10 to the fourth then to 2.7 times 10 to the fourth them add them but i suppose you could add the powers first to make it easier

add the non power numbers
only do this since the powers are the same
if they are different, make them the same, and add the coefficients
