I keep hearing about acquainences who are friends with the opposite sex, and they just have sex for the sake of having sex and no more. There is no relationship/commitment or anything. I am not suggesting that I want to do this, but how widespread are "sex buddies" or friends "with priviledges"? What do you think?

I had a "F.B." for several years. I would lie and tell myself it was just about the sex, but truthfully, I'm not wired for having non-committed sex. I ended up having major feelings and complicating everything. I suppose it matters if you can handle that type of situation. I know I can't.

I know from personal experience that this is very pervasive so if both people can handle the situation it is a great way to relieve the sexual tension that one can build up. It does become a problem if one or the other in this situation develops feelings. So be sure you are ready before embarking on a relationship like this.

I personally think the people who do this are stupid and really gross. I think they have some deep problems with self-esteem and place no value on sex and their bodies- that's pretty sad. I wouldn't want to be with a person who didn't value themself and has slept with people they didn't give a toss about. They act like dogs in heat who just want to relieve themselves. ICK.

What happens when the "friend" gets pregnant? Turns out to have AIDS? Gives your herpes? Has genital warts and you give them to your next "friend"? Decides they "want more" and gets hurt? What happens when you meet someone you might truly care about and you're still doing your "friend"? Do you think the new person is going to think much of you? What if the 'friend" gets jealous and after your one last sexual encounter, tells you she's pregnant?

I don't know why people even consider going down this road- it's nothing but trouble.

Well...Well..This question is close to my heart. It being the fact that I am marrying my "Privileged" friend. To be honest I really don't agree with the Privileged friend concept cause there is always one party in the relationship that see it as more than a "Special" friendship and they get hurt. More than likely it's the woman cause because women fall in love easy. However my fiance' and I really didn't have people we dealt with outside of our friendship but we just didn't want to be in a relationship. Too much responsibility Turns out, that is exactly what we had...a freaking relationship wrapped up in "Special Friend" package.

it is complicated!i don't think you plan you sex buddy,u,re simply friends and after it just happens!if it's some kind of chemistry but things are changed forever after having sex,it;s not your buddy anymore you
hide some things that u normally wouldn't hide from your best friend.it is a different "specimen"if u like but it's also very delicate.

I think its pretty common.... Im sure most ppl have had that type of relationship before. I did for a year with a cop that pulled me over ;-)
It was never going to be more than that, we only were sexually compatible....

It is great. you both get someone to have fun with but without the commitment of a relationship. As long as both parties know that it is just casual then I don't see a problem with it.

I have been hearing/reading about this as well. I think it's happening a lot more than we would think. I'm not into that, but to each his own. If both people are happy-go for it.

It would be a mistake. Sex isn't casual.
