I am a college student and hopefully will be getting a new car next year. Currently I have a '95 Maxima. I am really eyeing the new Civic (2 door). My max price could barely accomodate the Si.

The problem is, I am not seeing the Si when I search inventories of dealers in my area. Is that car in high demand or do dealers have to order it?

I like the regular Civic coupe, but I don't think that the 140hp engine is enough for my driving style (I am not that aggressive, but I like power when I need it).

Any advice on the status of the new Si, or the Civic coupe vs. the Si? Thanks for any help.

As previously mentioned, it is a very high demand and low production vehicle so you will not have an easy time finding it. My recommendation is to drive the non-Si Civic and see if the power is sufficient for you. While 140 hp may sound paltry, the car is very light and that engine may have some good pickup.

Also, as a college student, bear in mind that as prices for fuel continue to shoot up, that 40 mpg highway rating will be VERY attractive.

There's a waiting list for the car because it's in a very very high demand. You'll have as much luck finding the Si as you would the NSX. And the Si has a larger waiting list than an NSX. I've seen one Si since they came out at a dealership, ruby red too, very nice. That car was there a week before it sold. The new Si isn't really all that great though, its more gas oriented than power oriented. Thats the difference between the K20A2 (RSX) and the K20A3 (Si).

I'd recommend you call or just go down to your nearest Honda dealer and ASK. Get it straight from the horse's mouth. That's a much better answer than us guessing what we think on here.

You could also call Honda corporate and see what they have to say too.

I live in a city of over a million people and I can't find any 2007 Civic Si's here either, but it's only Sept of 2006. I know that a lot of 2007 cars are out, but if it's a harder to find car.....then you're going to not see as many and they will go much faster.

To summarize, call or go to the dealer if you are serious about it.

Just for reference...and for the guy above...the new Si Coupe has the K20Z3...not the K20A3.

The K20A3 came in the 2002-2005 Civic Si Hatchbacks.

if your are worried about the price than you cant afford it! dont worrie about having the newest car. get a 4 year old prelude and than you can afford the gas that takes it to go down the road. the prelude will be plenty fast for you and you will still get to college in stile. when you get out of college and get a real job get a 2 year old S2000 and drive with a real smile. dont get a new si civic very flash but over rated

SIs are hard to find, brand new. You wait 2-3 years and you might find a '07 used.

Forget the SI and get an RSX-Type S.

The SI is a low production/high demand model. You can expect to pay anywhere between MSRP and up to $5000.00 OVER MSRP for it, and a waiting list of up to 6 months depending on the color you want and if you want it with navigation.

Honda is creating a demand for the civics by purposely keeping production low so they can boost the price of the vehicles.

yeah, as far as sport compacts go, that's one of the 'hotter' cars out there. Expect to pay MSRP or more as they will mark it up.

Send out some emails to local dealers telling them you are interested. I'm sure they will contact you. You can search for local dealers at kbb.com, edmunds.com etc. It's best to get Internet quotes first so you have a start point for haggling when you are ready to buy
