OVBIOUSLY some people here don't really love animals. If you had a cat and a dog that were your best friends and not just your 'property' you would NEVER dream of shooting one, drowning one, or eating one. Dogs and cats aren't supposed to get along, that doesn't mean one should die.
My suggestion is to keep them at a distance and still let them hiss/ bark, but don't let them get too close just in case. That's what we did with my cat and dog & now our dog is afraid to go near our kitty because he scared her too much. =^..^=

When I adopted my pointer, he was a year old, and tryed to attack my cat. I simply held him with one arm, while holding the cat with the other (the cat had also never lived with a dog, but she had once been injured by one), and just kept petting them both, and speaking in a soothing voice. After a while I was able to let the dog go. I let him sniff the cat (who hissed, but didn't attack) and whenever he'd look like he was getting too nosy, I'd growl at him the word "Nnnnooooo!"
Within less than a week, they were getting along fine.

I need a little more info, like why they aren't getting along. Did you bring home a new one? Did they all suddenly decided they hate each other? Are they spitting or trying to kill each other? Please give more detail.
At my shelter, we have over 30 dogs (at the moment) and 7 cats. Everybody gets along because they have to. If we get a new rescue canine with aggressive behavior toward felines because it was allowed to chase or kill cats by the previous owner (so macho!), then we do not take chances with it, and the aggressive canine gets his own pen. That behavior is almost impossible to "unteach."
We do have one cat that is petrified of the dogs, which seems to set them off, so he has his own room. Otherwise, my dogs groom the cats, love the kittens, and the cats wind themselves around the dogs and sleep with them.
PLease give a few more details, like how many of each you have, and how they are behaving. Is this just jealousy over you, or are they trying to hurt each other?

You need to give more details. Did you just get one? If so, which one? What are they doing? Fighting bad? Chasing, getting chased? Just acting territorial? "Don't get along" is being a bit too vague for someone that might want to help.
