It seems like those on hard times can NEVER break out of their rut, but those doing well just keep on humming and doing better
and better. I can understand that the more you have, the better
your credit, the more your opportunities to use other people's money, and all that. There comes a point when, in the accumulation of advantages, in fact, you have an absolute certainty of making money and financial success in general.
But, those stuck with kids that don't want or need, or a nagging,
demanding wife, and work at thankless jobs, getting paid chump change, never, ever get anywhere. Or, even worse, they get divorced, and get stuck either making support payments, or raising
a kid as a single parent, with about 10 cents to save a year left
over.
So, what I'm saying, is don't be stupid and get hitched or have kids before age 30, be all you can be, and take the world by the balls!
Or, have kids at an early age and work in the wal-mart shoe section! LOL

John brings up a good point, its who you know, or who you blow......and it certainly helps if you know or blow anyone in the corporate suite....in all seriousness, those middle-clas parents who people think are crazy for starting them off right even at three are not crazy.....actually, if the kid is off the winning track at 9, they are probably future home depot material, if they are lucky, as all the factory jobs left now will
be in China when they are of age....so
if they are off the track at 9 or older, they will be working for some big box retailer
stocking underwear for the rest of their lives, and working with teen-age kids.
Need I mention getting treated like absolute garbage by customers........so parents, get your kid on the winning track by three, and keep em away from the tv and sega, and put a book in their hands!

John J, another good point is the bankruptcy protections....the payday loan
companies have more rights than consumers.....charge someone 40% interest and you have backers, but try helping people out of the bankrupcy that is built into the system with the mailing out of 10 cards a week to most people, and you get no where

I feel that those making money infomercials
are aimed at those struggling folks!
I think it almost impossible to get out of the rut their in...let's face it, they don't really have any goals other than paying their bills from month to month......they ahve no hope, and the saddeest thing is seeing them in their 30's and 40's working at speedway or bed, bath, and beyond, with that hopless "Im screwed and will forever be dumped on" look.

Fred r shoild be writing books....fred, that was very well put....more than I could say.
And maybe there is hope for those poor folks who watch nascar races in their underwear, with crying babies tugging on them that they can't afford.....lets hope and pray that hope abounds for all those
who work thankless jobs that are a nightmare to get up in the morning to go to.

Scott's rules for staying away from a lifetime of stocking underwear at Wal-Mart
1.) Men, keep your Johnson in your pants,
ladies, keep the pants and skirt hiked up.
2.) If you must pull the aforesaid Johnson
out, please fully clothe him with a rubber.
Ladies, if you simply must hike down your skirt, make sure you go buy spermacide
at your local wal-mart(on sale for $9.99
this week)
3.)read books. yes, those rectangular objects you see smart folks walk around with.
4.)Turn off the da m n TV!
5.) Don't do weed, coke, crystal meth,
or Busch beer.
6.)Try to avoid appearing on COPS episodes on TV.

If you follow my above rules, you prob
will never see the inside of a Wal_mart!

You can buy a better education at the best schools. That is one way to get a "best" job .

You pretty well have it right. Those who are doing well just keep humming along . The reasons you give are accurate though you should add hard work, attitude, education.

It is indeed difficult to rise above the factors you outline, however it is possible, and is being done every day by millions of otherwise going nowhere people.

You are probably correct that putting off marriage and family is a good responsible approach when you cannot afford it or doing so would make gettinfg ahead too difficult. First things first.

What you may be missing however is that the reasons the earners got ahead in the first place, involved things the losers can also adopt to become winners.

Hard work, attitude, gaining experience and training revolutionize many lives otherwise apparently stalled on the ladder. Combining salaries, careful budgeting and saving, however little, are first steps to being able to move up to the earnings necessary for the best things in life, which is a loving family with a good education and future for the children.

There are opportunities . It takes initiative, resolve and hard work to get there. Good luck.

This is the way the system is set up. If you are rich, you have connections, don't need to worry about one or two hardships causing you to lose your house, etc. and can buy most of what you need.

Health care coverage is affordable, so a sudden injury or illness means you might (emphasis on might) be out $500 while the same injury/illness could mean $5000 for a poorer person who can't afford the same health coverage. Also because of this, you are less likely to get quality care, making recovery time longer, if you ever fully recover.

Education doesn't matter to the richer people. They can pay their way into the expensive colleges. They then have a lot of other rich people's children around them; which is an incredible leg up in the job market. If you are best friends with the CEO's son, you are guaranteed a good job in that company, no matter what your skills.

And now you have the Republican agenda to help these people out or hurt the poor even more:

1) Remove Medicare/Medicaid. As if health costs weren't bad enough, now they want to remove the only thing that helps the poorest to survive.

2) Reduce public education grants. Can't afford to go to college? Too bad. Maybe after 2-3 decades of working minimum wage jobs you might be able to afford a couple years of college, maybe even a bachelors degree, but by then, you are 40-50....

3) Remove bankruptcy protections. Purely a hand out to the loan companies (banks, credit card companies, etc.) and those that make money through them.

4) Remove the estate tax. As if these wealthy sons and daughters of the billionaires need more money. And don't accept for one minute that lie about poor family farms being taken to pay for this tax. It only applies to millionaires, the minimum estate value is more money than you or I will probably ever see.

Need I go on?
