Not number of species, I want the exact number of all insects in the world so I can calculate the ratio of insects to humans.

It's a very interesting and difficult question and i've been wondering about something like this previously. In the page http://42explore.com/insects.htm I found this:

"Entomologists (scientists who study insects) estimate that the average number of insects for each square mile (2.6 square kilometers) of land equals the total number of people on the earth." (I don't know if they include the seas, probably yes because tehre are sea insects too)

Now, the Earth it's about 57268900 square miles so that would be the ratio. Mmh, if the number of people is 6500'000000 then the number of insects should be about 372247'850000'000000.

Hope this helps.

Correction note: I re-read the statement and it is "for each square mile of land", so the ratio is about 30% acording to the land/sea ratio, so:
Number of insects: 111674'355000'000000
Insect/human ratio: 17'180670

Supposedly estimate 10,000 insects per square meter.

I keep losing count after about 3,000,000. Seriously, I would be skeptical of any numbers thrown out.
