I have driven there a bunch of times from Maryland. I always took I-68 from Md to I-79 in West Va, then take I-79 south to Charleston WVa and pick up I-64 West. Follow I-64 all the way to St Louis and then pick up I-70 West. Follow I-70 West allo the way to Utah where it runs into I-15 and take I-15 South to Vegas.

If you are in a hurry to get tehre and want to drive 12 to 14 hrs days, you can probably drive from Md to St Louis on day one (a good 12-13 hrs), then on to Denver on day two (also a good 12-13 hrs) and then to Vegas on Day three (also a good 12 hrs).

So you are gonna need at least 2 hotel rooms @ about $100 each or less. Its about 2500 miles at about $2.50 a gallon at least. So how many miles per gallon does your car get. Plan on about $3.00 for gas. Do like we do and pack your cooler with lunch stuff and save money trying to find a place to eat; just styop at a rest area to eat.

When you get west of Denver there is really great scenery. Gas stations are also few and far between and there is one place on I-70 past Grand Junction Colorado where there is a sign warning there are NO gas stations for the next 100 miles and its true. Always plan to fill up when you get to half a tank because it may take you a while to find a station. Also, some of the stations may be off brands. There are BP and Shell and Conocos.

If you plan on driving that distance I would strongly recommend AAA because they are aware of road construction and road closures en route to your destination. These little tidbits of information can save you a great deal of time and aggravation on a long trip. Plus with AAA you will also get a handful of other benefits which also come in handy on the trip. It's worth it just for the road service alone!

As for the gas costs divide the distance by the MPG of your vehicle then multiply by the average cost of fuel.

Example. A trip is 1800 miles and your vehicle gets 20mpg 1800 divided by 20 is 90 so it will take 90 gallons of gas to get there 90 times lets say $2.25 per gallon is $202.50
