How have you heard it? On TV? Discovery Channel? If you were not in the forest when the tree fell at that moment, then the crew who helped make the programme heard the noise in person. No matter who, someone was there.

No, because noise is a function of hearing. The waves that are sent out by the tree falling, if not interpreted by our ears remain only sound waves and quickly dissipate.

It certainly creates air pressure waves. Any further, depends on your definition of noise and whether or not a receiver is required to qualify the air pressure waves as a noise. Does it make a noise if no one is around but a tape recorder is recording?

Since noise is defined as sound waves, yes. Just because someone is not there to witness the soundwaves does not mean that a tree can fall without making sound waves. Simple physics.

too true, that is not very original, but i cant remember what the answer is either. I guess that it depends on what is defined as noise, and sound. The tree would make sound waves as it fell and hit, but if those waves dont impinge on your ear drums does that mean there is no noise? Or just no noise for you to hear? depends on how you define it i guess.

Yes, it does. Sound is the result of a sudden change in the air pressure in an environment. Every time you hit your hand on the desk, pop a balloon., or use power tools, the sound is a result of that sudden change. A tree falling does the same thing as it relates to sound.

To qualify as noise,,, the sound made must be heard. If no one or no thing that has hearing capabilities is present, then there is no noise. There is sound, however.
