Well, first off I would have to donate a portion of the winnings to a charitable organization, then donate a portion to the church, and of course pay off all of my debt, buy a new home for my family so I can get the heck out of this single wide trailer that is just way too small for the 4 of us, I would probably donate this trailer to a family who has lost everything they have due to a fire, Maybe buy a new vehicle, then I would take the kids to the mall to buy "Brand Named" clothes and shoes (something they're not accustomed to). I would then bank the rest to save for the kids to go to college and probably invest in a small diner in my area. There is SO much that I could do with a large sum of money, but it's the necessities that I would worry about first and foremost.

The very first thing I'd do would be to personally go and collect the cheque and make sure that the money had been transferred to my bank!
Then I would deal with the embarrasment and headache of having so much money and take advice on keeping as much as I could out of the hands of the taxman. (I might have a small celebration and pay off some outstanding debts, take a holiday and buy one or two things while this was happening, of course - all the normal stuff that one would do on finding that one had more money than one knew what to do with!)
What I would REALLY do once I had everything safely tucked away happens to be a secret but I probably wouldn't be sitting at THIS desk in THIS house ;)

me too owlwings. not at this desk.
I would do the best I can for the town I moved to 4 years ago, in a different country where I couldn't speak the language very well, and where I knew no-one. My family and I were accepted into the community faster than any place I ever lived in my own country. A year or so ago, the town swimming pool was burnt down after an electrical fire, that would be the first thing I would put right ! Not for us, because the house we bought has a pool anyway, but for everyone who was so kind to us !
Yes, I'd put plenty aside for my wife, the kids, and myself, but money is like blood, it's doing no good unless it's circulating ...

Depends on how much I won.....I would pay off any and ALL debt...then buy a house (b/c I rent) then put at least 50 % away for my kid..anything left over would have to go to vacations and SHOPPING..lol...of course AFTER all the important stuff was taken cared of.

Tell my spouse - then we would run away on a short vacation and decided a plan of action for when we returned. The first thing then would be hiring a financial advisor and also having a huge party for friends and family!

An injustice has been done to me by my past Landlord. I did not have the money to defend myself against him and I rpresent myself and kept going for years and gave up. If I win the Lottery I'll hire an attorney and win my case.

The first thing? The finest restaurant meal that money could buy, including tip. Then, I'd settle down to business.

contact the IRS and make sure the gov't gets their share ( the gov't gets money from all lottery winnners) and get all of my money. then i would set some money aside for college, buy a car, and a down payment on a house or apartment.
