AC DC - Thunderstruck
Van Halen - Hot for Teacher
(*personally, I favour Van Halen with David Lee Roth the best over AC DC any day. AC DC over Van Halen with Sammy Hagar.)
Good question.

AC/DC rocks harder in concert, but doesn't have the virtuoso excellence of Edward Van Halen.
However, post David Lee Roth Van halen (aka Van Hagar) has stolen the rock from Van Halen altogether. So final answer: AC/DC now, Van Halen circa 1980.

Neither of them anymore, but I'll go with Van Halen in the Roth years, and AC/DC after the Roth era.

AC/DC is by far a heavier rock genre than Van Halen all together, it doesn't depend on the songs.

AC/DC - For me it is "Highway to Hell"
For Van Halen, this might be a surprise, but I'm going with "5150". When I saw them do that song live in concert, it blew me away.
