to solve this type of equation....get the P's to the same side

1) subtract 3 p's from each side 7p-12 -3p = 3p -3p
2) get new result 7p-3p -12 = 3p-3p
or 4p-12 = 0
3) get the p alone add 12 to each side 4p-12 +12 = 0 + 12
4) get new result 4p + 0 = 12
or 4p = 12
5) solve divide both sides by 4 4p / 4 = 12 / 4
or p = 3

Add 12 to both sides to get:

7p = 3p +12

Subtract 3p from both sides to get:

4p = 12

Divide both sides by 4 to get:

p=3

You can check your work by substituting 3 for p in the original:

7(3) = 3(3) +12

21 = 9 +12....YES!

7p - 12 = 3p

1.) Subtract 7p from both sides.
Now you have: -12 = -4p

2.) Divide both sides by -4
Now you have: 3 = p

Therefore, the answer is, p = 3 .
