That's a variation on an Andy Griffith joke:

A country boy is the first person in his home town to make it to college. When he comes home after his first semester, the townfolks ask him to say something smart. So he says, "Pi r squared". He gets the response, "Dang fool, college kid! Pie are round! Corn bread are square!"
