As we become further divided as a Nation, and politicians only support their party and not their country - will this harm us or can we weather this storm?

No nation can conquer us from outside, but we are rapidly on the path to destroying ourselves from within.

I think the biggest factors are ignorance and hatred. People just don't know enough about history, facts, truth, or anything. The media does not tell us the truth, or put things in context, and people are too ignorant to catch it. So people belive whatever they see on TV, no matter how much it contradicts reality.

I think the 9/11 conspiracy theories are the best example of this. Anybody with any education, or any kind of brain function, knows that the conspiracies are stupid. However, latest polls suggest that as much as 30% of the population believes them. How long can a society last, when 30% of the voting population lives in a fantasy land.

Eventually something will turn up that most agree on and we'll move forward again for a while. Think of the Civil War, we were divided, the 2nd World War we were all united. I really don't believe that folks are that far apart. The national media brings problems from all over to everyones attention. You get along with your neighbors don't you? Everyone knows politicians are full of crap for the most part and agrees on this.

Yes, our system and its divisions *will* be our downfall....but.

Follow the money. Who benefits the *most* from our being so divided against each other? It isn't any old "liberal elite." It is your CEOs, your One Percenters...and they swing right, hard-right, and fascist-right generally.

I mean, look at how this all got started. No, not with the fall of the New Economy and with Big Oil ruining everything....

Look at how it started with *Reagan*. Saying it's okay to attack people for being poor and down on their luck, saying that we need to make more folks suffer so the filthy rich can get richer (and filthier). This has been going on for some 26 years now. We have created a society wherein there is a Pampered Side, and an Insulted Side, and somehow it is "ok" for someone from the Pampered Side--say your Ann Coulter--to write a whole big BOOK of lies and slander and libel and Make Money off of it. While, if the Insulted side actually brings up *facts* they are just shouted down for being a "loony lib" or a "Islamo-fascist wannabe"....hell, why not just *call them a Pinko Commie* and be done with it? :(

And the sad part of it is....there isn't a way out. The Politicians of the Insulted Side of the Big Business Party are just *too used* to being weak and to *losing*....third parties have the deck too heavily stacked against them, all over.

And the Pampered Side, the one who sucks up to the CEOs and whoever they favor (mainly religious fanatics and cheap labor that wants us all to DIE, like now), they get to be more dictatorial EACH PASSING DAY.

I don't like to say it, but: It will get violent if this keeps up, if *half* the nation continues to be shut out of things this mercilessly by the other half (being generous here--it's more like half the nation gets shut out by the most Pampered 20%, ok?).

Not that anyone cares. Not that anyone listens. Because too many people have been *pushed around and abused* for the past 26 years and counting, and now the Stockholm Syndrome has set in, and people are now too busy sucking up to and *sympathizing with* their abusers and their enemies.

The only way out is Through. But that requires people getting a SPINE and folks aren't up to that by and large.

Just my plug nickel, never mind me. :)

I not only find Jim W. completely ignorant, but, I find him very full of hatred, the very kind you are talking about in this particular question, which I find to be neutral. Its people like him that will continue to cause a division in the US.

HEY SHINING J... I have noticed in most of Jim W's postings, they are all mean and hateful... this one is no exception!

I don't hate Republicans. I'm a working man, i work damn hard for what my family and i have, all i ever see are Republicans trying to take it away. have you ever seen a pro-labor Republican? I haven't. so I think its the rich affluent Republican that is riping this country apart. he has to do it to make sure he gets richer and the working man gets beaten down until he ows his soul to the company store once again.
