your intellectual property is your ideas expressed as somehing written down, like a song, or a drawing, poem, novel, business contract, or created, like an innovative new type of children's toy or mechanical tool. it is infringed upon if someone else steals your expressed idea and tries to pass it off as their own. you have to be able to prove that it was your idea forst, by showing proof of a registered trademark, patent, copyright, etc.
