KIDDING . I just wanted your attention, because that seems like the only way to get it around here. Anyway........
I'm 17 (female) and looking to redecorate my room.
I want the room to be girly but not overly-girly since this will probably be my last time redecorating before I go off to college and I want it to be mature.
Any color scheme ideas (including rug) or just any ideas about furniture in general too. Again, nothing to girly. Thank you.

Go with "dusky" colors...dusky rose...yellow...green...not the primary colors which say "I'm still a kid"
Whatever color you like will work....and it will look like you are evolving. And still look incredibly feminine....
I have done our bedroom with dusky cinnamon with gold undertones....I'm not 17...and about as far away as one could get, but until recently I never had the money to decorate a room like this.
Elegant always works!

What a way to start out a question by using a hateful racist remark. How dare you little girl. What are you trying to do incite a riot?
Before you can be a mature adult, you have to grow up. You are far from being an adult. I don't care if you are 17. You need to ask some of you school girl class mates instead of coming on here and starting out a question like this.
It is very racist and very, very misleading to everyone. Someone should report you for the misuse of Yahoo Answers!!
If you hate white then make everything black. BUT then again, you do doubt hate the black race also.
Keep your two points and paste them on your wall......
For your adding details.....yes i think a lot about hatred and racism because there way to much of it.. You starting your question off with such a racist remark should be reported because you are deceiving all of us. AND I did not ask you if you were white....the color of a person skin doesn't bother me at all. You act like we are the bad people...look how many thumbs down you have. H E L L O !!!!!
One more thing, you need to go back to the 9th grade and learn how to spell before going to college.....

When I was seventeen, I had the same dilemma. Lucky for me, my stepdad owns an interior/exterior painting business so I got some cool stuff done for free in my room.
For the walls, I picked my favorite color (which is red) and he used a technique called "sheening." What it basically is -- thick vertical stripes using two colors (I used red and another shade of red a little lighter, but it was noticably lighter, almost pink. Sheening is typically done with two very similar colors, like dark blue and then a shade a bit lighter).
It's pretty easy to do. You can look it up online, or even go to the Home Depot or Lowe's and they'll give you tips and stuff. All you need is blue painter's tape, paint, and rollers. Easy.
I got all my furniture at IKEA (ikea.com) because it's inexpensive, stylish, and modern-looking. They also have a lot of color varities. (I got a computer desk there for $39, a side table for $10, a new bed for $129.) They also have textiles like rugs, sheets and comforters for your bed.... things like clocks, lamps, etc.
Good luck!

Have you considered shabby chic? (That term has actually been patented (or something) by Rachel whosit.)
But it can either mean her particular offerings, or just that style in general. You don't have to go overboard with it; you can incorporate some of the elements and leave out others. Like if you're not into all the chintzy flowery thing, you can still go for the distressed old look. Or vice versa.
I recommend googling it and seeing if that is something you'd like. I would say it's definitely more fem than masc, but it's not uber-girly, and it is adult versus childlike.

There is always truth to what people say and comment on. So yes, you did bring attention to your question. I am one who really takes people for their word. I think you should decorate your entire room with white. White rug, white walls, white sheets , white towels. Try White, you will really Love it.

My g/f Son is 16 and painted his room lime green with black trim and black lacquer furniture.
I think It may be a neuteral color. He used lime green and green apple, he used one or the other for walls and ceiling, looks great and the girls like it too.
