Do alcohol burners run on regular isopropyl alchohol?

In schools where alcohol burners are used in labs, denatured alcohol is used. This is ethanol with 5% methanol added to make it poisonous. Isopropyl will work. Isopropyl is rubbing alcohol which is what is available in a drug store without a permit.

Yes and no. They can run on 100% isopropyl alcohol, but you typically only find 70% isopropyl alcohol (30% water), which won't burn. I believe that you would typically use methanol (wood alcohol, usually sold as denatured alcohol).
