I am thinking of having my belly button pierced. I would love to hear opinions from anyone whether it be for or against. Has anyone had it done and had any problems?

I have my belly button pierced, and I didn't even feel it, I also had my tongue pierced and my tragus pierced (the part of your ear in front of your ear canal. My belly button healed very quickly and never had any problems with it. You just have to clean it 3-4 times a day with liquid dial soap and a q-tip. Also I used Bactine First-Aid spray on it too as it is an antiseptic and a pain reliever. The only thing that hurts here and there is if I get it caught on my belt I am wearing. Other than that, you never even notice it.

I had my belly button pierced 10 years ago....before the fad. I took it out because every girl from 18-48 had it done. I think the whole piercing thing it a little over now but if it's something you want go for it. You shouldn't be persuaded by somebody else's opinion.

I have 6 holes in my navel. Crazy, I know. 4 were self done, I'm a piercer.

The pros are simple, looking and feeling a bit more girly and being able to buy fun jewelry.

The cons are more complicated and painful. They include but are not limited to:
Infections, the piercing can migrate out and tear your skin, the piercing can be ripped out if you aren't careful, you can have scar tissue form in or around the hole causing pain.

Please don't let the cons change your mind, if you are good to your piercing, it will be very good to you. So clean it and give it tender loving care and it'll turn out great. Oh, and be sure to go to a good piercer. I hope you decide to get one done and good luck.

I'm sorry to tell you but I don't know of many pro's.
Here are the con's:
Take forever to heal
Painful as all get out
Infected easily
Gets caught on clothing
Unless you where belly shirts often, it isn't seen
If you get pregnant it should come out because otherwise you will end up with a huge hole from the piercing and then you will have to have it repierced.
Bellies don't always stay sexy, you get old!

i love my belly button piercing. it doesnt hurt when they do it, its just after that it starts to become a little sore. you cant slep on yor tummy or wear high waisted clothes. you ned to clean it every day. (one egg cup, a good pinch of rock salt, and some warm water, put egg cup on your belly btton for about 5 mins, then dab dry with a clean cloth). always make sure you do this after a bath or shower because the soap and shampoo will irritate your piercing. i never had any problems with mine and have had it 7 years now. it took about a year before it healed properly. meaning thet it didnt hurt when i caught it on any thing. the very best of luck to you , hope all goes well.

Ouch..... I had mine done 3 or 4 years ago for mother's day.... I needed a little pick me up It made me feel sexier. Anyway... mine didn't hurt when they did it... but it was so tender for about 6 months after wards. It wasn't infected just tender. I had a hard time exercising, playing with my kids, sleeping on my tummy. I have several friends who have them done and it is a 50/50 split some said they were tender others say it didn't bother them at all. I love it now that it has been a few years! Do it for you not anyone else.

The piercing itself really hurt, the wound bled for a while, and you have to wear low cut jeans, otherwise the jeans rub against the piercing and that hurts! On the good side, it's very chic, the jewelry is beautiful, and it adds a bit of glam to an otherwise dull part of the body!

i had mine done when i was 16, never had any problems. i took it out because my parents found out and made me. however, 4 months ago (i'm 20 now) i got it redone. i love it, but, i've had issues w/ it this time. it is the easiest piercing (aside from genital piercings) to get infected, and mine has, like 3 times. it gets pulled on easily (like during sex w/ my husband) and when it gets jerked, its easy for the ring to get infected, and it gets caught and pulled alot, no matter what kind of ring you have. i got my piercing free, in exchange for giving the piercer a massage. (i'm a licensed massage therapist) but it has ended up costing me a lot of money. 50 dollars in doctor visit copays, and 40 dollars in antibiotics...

it's a fun piercing.. just take really good care of it, and know that it can have issues even if you are doing everything right.

by the way, kudos for doing your research before doing it! thats awesome!

I don't have any piercings. The belly piercing is cute - it looks hot - but it's best on young, thin girls. If you fit those qualifications, go for it. But just in keep in mind, once you get to age 25, it's going to look like you're trying to be cool and you aren't anymore.
