I've noticed for about a week and a half that when I am in the shower washing my hair a lot of it comes out.

While I wash it, I can actually run my fingers through my hair and pull out about 10 strands. It's freaking me out!!! I've made an appt. with the doctor for this Thursday, but I was wondering if this has happend to any other women out there?

Thanks for your feedback!!

Everyone loses hair and the reasons can vary. It can have to do with dieting (extreme dieting), excessive hair coloring or age and hormone changes. Its always a good idea to visit you doctor with these type of questions. I would do the same.

Good luck.

Androgenetic alopecia. Female hair loss. I have it myself, it was a lovely surprise at the ripe old age of 24. It runs in families, and can skip generations. I was the only one of 4 girls to get thinning hair (lucky me).

Barring any vitamin or hormone disorders, the doctor will prolly tell you to go on OTC Rogaine. It really helps, doesn't smell and is cheap at Walgreens (3 month supply for $30). If that's what you have, you really can't do much but use the Rogaine. I have found that "Thickening" shampoos work well too. Pantene and Sauve have "Full and Thick" formulas that work well. Also, don't stress your hair with tight buns or ponytails, and don't yank it when brushing.

Hope this helped!

Baldness is a trait which involve the state of lacking hair where it often grows, especially on the head. The most common form of baldness is a progressive hair thinning condition called androgenic alopecia or 'male pattern baldness' that occurs in adult human males and some primate species. The severity and nature of baldness can vary greatly; it ranges from male and female pattern alopecia (androgenetic alopecia, also called androgenic alopecia or alopecia androgenetica), alopecia areata, which involves the loss of some of the hair from the head, and alopecia totalis, which involves the loss of all head hair, to the most extreme form, alopecia universalis, which involves the loss of all hair from the head and the body. Treatment for alopecia has limited success. The more hair lost, the less successful the treatment will be

This happend to me the first time I dyed my hair. I changed brands and it stopped. This also happened to me when I was really stressed out. Think of any major lifestyle changes you have had lately, not nessecarly having to do with your hair, (new foods, shampoo, soap, loation, reloacation, stress, etc) and bring that list to your doctor, it could speed up the process. Good luck!

I wouldn't get too stressed out if it's not causing balding. A long time ago, a hairstylist told me that humans actually have shedding seasons like other mammals. I have experienced periods like you are describing and they stop eventually without causing any damage but a messy bathroom. It's still a good idea to see your doctor though if you are panicked about it. Good luck.

You lose 100 strands of hair a day. I learned that in cosmetology school. But if you are stressed you will lose more and maybe get a bald spot. Learned that from being stressed.

Many different reasons for loosing your hair.
Are you under stress?
Did you recently undergo a chemical process such as perm, dye, straightner?
Change in diet?

Don't worry about 10 strands. Typically you lose more then that in a day anyway.

Are you dieting or have you lost a lot of weight in a short time period lately? This can be a cause of hair loss. Also, a protein deficiency can cause hair loss.

A little hair loss is normal but that sounds like a lot and enough to be concerned about. Have you dyed it or anything new lately? It could also be stress.
