I generally go to 'symbols' (in word I think it might be under tools) it will bring up a table of lots of symbols and element signs - theres a tick there somewhere. You'll have to make the font bigger.

It's a bomb!! Nah, not really. It could be something getting caught on the fan that cools the chips inside. That's the most common reason for ticking noises. Hard drives do tick sometimes, but normally only when they are broken. If your computer works fine otherwise it is most likely a fan. It may be worth taking it in to somewhere to get it checked, but I wouldn't worry too much.

In word - at the top of the screen - INSERT - then in the drop down box - SYMBOL - find the tick sign click on in then click insert
