and my 3 yr old had to poop, none of the neighbors were home so I took her in the backyard and let her poop on the ground. Now everytime we see somebody we know, she yells, "mommy took me in the backyard and I pooped on the ground just like Ruby!" Ruby is our dog. It's embarrassing but, cute, how do I get her to stop telling everyone this, or should I just let it run its course?

Yeah, just let it run its course...and in the meantime...get a video camera and record her telling the whole story...imagine the look on her face when you play it at parties when she's older.

she will go on to more interesting conversations in time... but every one needs to be careful talking around little ones... my grandaughter is almost five... I took her to a movie the other day and got a detailed report of all that has been going on with her parents... The detail was to great to be misunderstood... I do not think my grandaughter would repeat this to any one else but did to me because of how close we are to each other...She told me that even though her mother dose not really like me that she will always love me... I told her that I loved her too and then kept trying to change the subjects as more revelations came out about things that she had clearly heard and understood.... Kids know what is what...even at very young ages...and yes, I did explain that some things are personal and should not be repeated... and she told me that if it was against me that she was going to tell me anyway... that no one should talk bad about anyone... hows that for wisdom from a young one.

Let it run its course. Poop is one of the three topics most interesting to a 3 year old. The others would be "pee" and "toys".

Think of it as a story to threaten to tell to her friends when she gets to be an irritable teenager.

My dear, you already told the entire world. Why bother, let it run its course. By the way, the same thing happened to me once and I had to break a window to get in the house. It was very stupid but I had to go to work.

Let it run it's course. I hope this hasn't affected her potty training. It was a novel experience for her, something nifty that she's never done before and she wants to share it with everyone. I bet it's embarrasing, but you did what you had to do.

Not a whole lot you can do. The one thing I would say is to not make a big deal out of it. The more you make of something your kids say, the more they will say it. If you just let it go by, they will stop saying it.

Tell her that pooping is private business. People do not talk about pooping. It's not nice to tell other people about your pooping. Tell her you should only talk about pooping to mom and dad (or other caretaker, such as Grandma or babysitter).

It sounds harmless. Let it run its course.
