I just saw this beautiful flower, and, without thinking, picked it so that only a small part of the stem and everything above the receptacle were picked off. is there a good way to keep it alive?

They make a bowl that is called a rose bowl you put about an inch or two of water. a lot of fish stores use the same bowl to send fish home. A Brandy sniffer will also work. Also use some of the plant food you get when you buy fresh flowers.

The best thing I can suggest is put it in a shallow dish with a little water. Its going to wilt and dry up anyway.
