No, and I am a Cubs fan. I am confident that in the next 6 years they could do some great things though. (That includes win the World Series.) The Cubs would be consistently better if an individual owned them instead of the Chicago Tribune.

Absolutely, the Chicago Cubs will win the 2007 World Series and their first World Series in 99 Years and during the 100th Anniversary of their first World Series back in 1907.

The Cubs will not win the world series or even make the playoffs. The Cubs are a struggling team, lacking playoff caliber offense, pitching, and defense, they have not the slightest chance of wining a spot in the playoffs much less the world series.

Well...Let's wait until the start of the season to see which moves were made by which teams...and then you may have a chance at seeing who will win. But, unless the Tribune Company sells the Cubs and an owner gets in who actually want to build a winning team and not profit off a historic stadium (the worlds largest beer garden) , you can count the Cubs out.

In order for the Cubs to win the series, they probably need the following:

1.) Two more SOLID starting pitchers to complement Zambrano. (Not Wood or Prior) They need two other guys (at least) who can give them 7 innings nearly every time out, and allow them to compete.
2.) More solid hitters. Right now, you have Lee (if he's healthy) and Ramirez. They need Pierre to be the guy they hoped he would be. They need Barrett to stay healthy, and they need another BIG bat in the outfield. The Cubs have very little power.
3.) They need a bullpen. Without a reliable closer, and at least 2 good guys they can rely on in the pen, they will not close out games.

Look at what the teams going to the playoffs have. Detroit (great starting staff, great bullpen)...St. Louis (Pujols, Rolen, Edmonds, Duncan, Encarnacion, Eckstein)...Mets (Beltran, Delgado, Wright, Reyes, Green, Lo Duca, etc...)

The Yankees have nearly the perfect blueprint: Great leadoff guy, solid defense, plenty of power, good starting staff, solid bullpen, lights out closer.

Until the Cubs get half of that, they won't even make a wild card.

As a Cubs fan I really hope so! We just need to hire Joe Girardi as our manager, and then put out some serious money to bring Alfonso Soriano and Barry Zito to the Cubbies!

The Chicago Cubs won't win the world series next year or any time soon. I'm not going to trash talk your team or anything but here's why I said what I said. The Chicago Cubs need a NEW manager, pitching rotation and need to look past this "goat" cruse. If I were you, I would start looking into a new team or something. Oh and by the way, YANKEES -VS- METS...SUBWAYS SERIES BABY!!! GO YANKEES!!!!

why not. there is a good young core in the infield: lee, ramirez (if he stays), barrett. starting pitching is good: zambrano, hill, and possibly prior can make a great top three, and then other guys can be filled in from the minors or free agency. bullpen can be good with howry, eyre and wuertz, but the closing situation needs to be fixed. outfield is a differnt story, murton can be good (100-25-100 good), they are stuck with jj in right, but someone else need to be brought in to play cf (pierre is just not good enough considering the rest of the team, they need defense and production not speed and singles), my recommedation would be edmonds in center. then they just need to figure out the 2b/ss situation.

other than that considering how week the nl is, i think the cubs can be contenders!

summary: need - 2b/ss, 4th or 5th sp, closer (though howry or wuertz can fill that role), cf (edmonds)

You will be lucky if the Cubs win the World Series in your lifetime, just once. You may actually never see them get to the World Series...

Everyone has a chance to win the world series. Oh wait, except for the Cubbies. I think that is even in the MLB rulebook somewhere ;)
